Rebels Round Out 2020 Coaching Staff

New Market Rebels first-year head coach Arthur Stenberg IV has added three assistant coaches to complete the Rebel’s staff roster.

“I am pleased to have these three talented and focused guys join me for the Rebels 2020 campaign,” Stenberg said. “With these coaches, and the players roster we have nearly completed, I am confident the Rebels will play at a competitive level and make postseason run.

Colton Taylor

Assistant Coach Colton Taylor, in his second stint coaching under Stenberg, will serve as the hitting and infield coach for the Rebels

Taylor is from Tahoka, TX, and played his freshman year at McPherson College in McPherson, KS, then transferred to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where he played baseball and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors. Taylor is currently pursuing an MBA at University of The Southwest.

Taylor began his coaching career in Lindsborg, KS at Bethany College where he primarily worked with the outfield, while assisting with infield and hitting.

In the summer of 2019, Taylor was hired by Stenberg as the infield coach of the Niagara Power of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, where he coached over 15 Division 1 players and helped lead the team to a 34-12 record and a the New York College Baseball League championship.

Logan Colvin

Logan Colvin is slotted as the Rebel’s pitching coach under Stenberg.

Colvin has five years of coaching experience; two years at Demopolis High School and three years at Russell County High School in Seale, AL, where he is assistant/pitching coach.

With Colvin’s help Demopolis and Russell County have had many successes including: a 122-33 overall record, the number one and two pitchers for strikeouts in Alabama during 2018, and the number one pitcher for strikeouts in 2019.

Russell County achieved the number one ranking in class 6A for Alabama during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, many collegiate baseball signees, and one player selected in the Major League Baseball draft in 2018.

Colvin is a 2012 graduate of Snead State Community College and a 2015 graduate of the University of West Alabama, majoring in Social Science Education. He played collegiately for four years at Snead State and West Alabama, and recently earned a master’s degree in International Relations from Troy University.

Trevor Tunison

Trevor Tunison, of Rockford, IL, will be Stenberg’s third assistant coach, and will focus on catching and assist with hitting.

Tunison is finishing his second season as a graduate assistant, working with catchers and hitters, for  the Lewis University Flyers and brings four years of collegiate playing experience – two seasons each at Madison College and Lewis University.

As a player, Tunison helped lead the Madison College Wolfpack to their 8th straight NJCAA World Series appearance in the 2015 season. After his days as a player, he immediately went into coaching.

Tunison has a BS in Marketing and a Masters in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University

The Rebels went 19-23 in 2019, in third place in the North Division and exited the play-offs 0-2 versus second place Woodstock in the division semi-final round.

“Seeing the resumes of these assistant coaches, and monitoring our roster development, affirms our confidence in Head Coach Stenberg and our coaching crew’s ability to lead the Rebels to a successful season by giving our players ample opportunities to further develop their skills in pursuit of their baseball dreams,” Rebels President  and General Manager Bruce Alger said.

The Fontastic 2019 Rebels

I think most of us can agree that our 2019 team was a special one, but even beyond their fun personalities and exceptional playing ability, our 2019 team had one other interesting attribute in common. Most adults who work in the world observe various documents, notes or reports that contain handwriting, and in many cases that handwriting isn’t always easy to read. If it is easy to read, it still might not be particularly neat or interesting to look at. At the beginning of the season, and after new players report to the Rebels, they fill out a questionnaire for the purposes of you Rebel fans getting to know them. You all saw me post these player profiles here on the blog all season long. What you didn’t see was the handwriting that filled them out! After each entry was handed to me this season, I continued to be surprised and impressed at the neatness of these boys penmanship! It’s truly a phenomenon.

Here’s an example of my own name printed on a report at work.. just for an example:

Can you read it? Because I barely can, and I wrote it! As someone who regularly sees notes jotted down by adults in the general population, this kind of sloppy lettering is the norm. This is what makes this grouping of handwriting so unique to me!

I wanted to provide you Rebel fans with some of these examples so that you can be as amused and impressed as I have been!

Here you can see Pitcher Kelyn Fox’s neat lettering. These small neat letters seem to be a common theme among the team.

Nic Nolan’s handwriting is not quite so neat, but his characters have kind of an artistic void that makes them interesting to look at. It’s also still very easy to read.

Blake Ebo’s lettering is a little bit larger and more bubbly. It has a youthful feel, but continues to be very neat and even.

I think Jeremiah McCollum and Davis O’Brien may be tied for neatest handwriting overall. They could have own fonts! I’d use them!

A few of our players had more elegant penmanship. These examples come from LT Pare, Jonah Seagears and Logan Morrison. They add a few flourishes to their words, and I appreciate the art of it!

These are just a few examples for you to enjoy. I can’t show you them all, but believe it or not, they were ALL very neat and easy to read, with the possible exception of Sam Prince who’s penmanship I’d describe as “normal”.

It will be interesting to me to see what kind of writers we get next year!
